Of all the routes we run, France is the one people picture most easily — a ferry, an autoroute, a stone house with shutters. From Hampshire it’s also unusually straightforward, because the Portsmouth ferry port sails direct to the French coast. It’s a real mix. The route to France
There are two natural ways across. For Normandy, Brittany and the west, the direct Portsmouth crossing to Caen, Cherbourg or St Malo drops you straight onto the French road network — neat, and less driving. For Paris, the east and the fastest run south, we’ll usually head east on the M27 and round the M25 to Dover or the Eurotunnel at Folkestone. From the French coast the roads split by destination: the A13 and A10 for Paris and the centre, the long run south-west on the A10 and A62 towards Bordeaux and Toulouse, and the Rhône valley on the A7 down to Provence and the Mediterranean.

This is the part people dread, and the part we quietly take care of. Can we sail direct to France from Portsmouth?
For a lot of France moves, yes — the Portsmouth crossings run to Normandy and Brittany, which is a natural fit if you’re heading for the west or south-west of the country. For Paris and the east we’ll often go via Dover or the Eurotunnel instead. We pick the crossing that suits your destination.
Do you go to the south of France as well as the north?
Yes. Normandy and Brittany are close and common, but plenty of our France work heads much further — the Dordogne, the Lot, Provence and the Côte d’Azur for people buying or retiring. The route is longer but it’s the same through-loaded lorry.
What paperwork do I need to move to France?

Can you handle a part-load to France?
